Eureka – Circularity of carbon fibres for sport applications – Kreislauffähigkeit von Kohlenstofffasern für Sportanwendungen

The goal of the research project is to develop a process chain that enables safety-critical products made from recycled carbon fibers (rCF) to be manufactured industrially and certified. To this end, rCF yarns will be further developed into oriented fabrics and prepregs for use in the manufacture of bicycle frames and components. At the same time, new approaches in the area of “Design for Circularity” will make it possible to consistently design products for repair, return, and recycling. The integration of digital product passports will enable the product’s condition to be tracked throughout its life cycle. In addition, training programs on these topics and on damage assessment, as well as exemplary collection strategies for the cycling sector, will be developed.
