The CMC Strategic Materials Summit 2027 will take place on 7–8 April 2027 in Brussels, Belgium. The programme will begin on April 7th with registration and an opening session between 12:00 and 2 pm, followed by keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. The summit will conclude on April 8th at approximately 4 pm.
Bringing together senior representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, industry and research, the event will advance a coordinated European strategy for Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC). As strategic enabling materials for defence, aerospace, space, energy and other critical industries, CMC are essential to Europe’s technological sovereignty, industrial competitiveness, and economic security. Despite Europe’s strong research base and industrial expertise, significant challenges remain, including fragmented value chains, dependence on non-European suppliers, limited manufacturing capacity, and insufficient long-term investment certainty. The summit will provide a platform to discuss these challenges and identify concrete actions to strengthen Europe’s resilience across the entire CMC value chain. Discussions will focus on recognising CMC as strategic materials, developing a European CMC roadmap, expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities, establishing European competence centres and creating the political and industrial framework needed to accelerate industrial deployment. The overarching objective is to build a shared vision between policymakers and industry that secures Europe’s future leadership in advanced CMC technologies and strengthens strategic autonomy in critical sectors.
